The Good Web Guide (GWG)4/8/2015
Around this time each year, GWG calls in entries for the GWG Awards and yes, like everything these days, it does cost to enter. To be frank I’d only heard of a few of last year’s winners, but may be that is because the net is cast quite widely in terms of categories. There are 20 this year and two new slots– Luxury and People’s choice.
The panel of judges reflects this variety and includes Justine Roberts, co-founder of Mumsnet, Lawrence Jones of UKFast, cloud technology business, Alicia Navarro, co-founder of Skimlinks, content monetisation company and Elizabeth Varley, co-founder of TechHub, technology startup community. If you want to win then design, innovation and online excellence top the agenda. I imagine the winning website also needs to have every social platform and feed every form of tablet. Have you heard of Pocket, an app that saves all those articles, videos and webpages that you spot online but don’t have time to read. You save in a ‘virtual pocket’ and browse when ‘relaxing at home’ – which strikes me that you are not relaxing at home. My point is that a website must be well designed with engaging content but not overloaded with tricks and links galore. And don’t get me started on those stalking digital ads…
But I do have time to relax at home with The French House, which launches its redesigned website this month. With France virtually closed for August, us Brits can relish some Gallic charm and indulge in La Douce France.
Francophiles will love the website which features new lifestyle photography by Jan Baldwin and a beautifully written and illustrated blog with original content that tells us the backstory of the products and talks about food and travel. Written by the owners, the food section has charming illustrations by Alice Ray. Magnifique! thefrenchhouse.net Categories
