WOOD WORKER20/5/2016
Yep, I thought what a great name for a cabinetmaker and then the penny dropped - the name behind TedWood design studio is Ted Jefferis. Easy mistake to make? Well, at least it’s a name you remember and a name to watch out for during Clerkenwell Design Week, where he presents the exhibition ‘British Grown, British Made.’
Ted's family history is engrained with design and woodwork heritage. The son of a classic boat builder, Ted studied at Oxford Brookes University, where he began to explore the concept of furniture as a scaled down form of architecture.

Wood is Ted’s first material and is what he is trained in. He is a big believer in traditional craftsmanship and you can feel his tangible love of British timber. Each furniture piece shows the natural beauty of wood and each piece is an exercise in structure and understanding the limits of materials, a concept that has gone on to become the backbone of his designs. He also loves the freedom of working with other materials like leather and brass. Recent lighting marries leather, oak and brass. Each material has its own role that comes together through craftsmanship. TedWood is a Creative CoOp award winner at 100% Design and an Elle Decoration British Design Awards 2015 winner. The Pop-up exhibition ‘British Grown, British Made’ during CDW (24-26 May) showcases his LiveEdge table, BeltUp bench and a second leather lighting range. www.clerkenwelldesignweek.com/showroom/tedwood/ Comments are closed.
