WOVEN ART25/11/2016
I asked Britain’s best and most joyful weaver Margo Selby how she named her woven artworks. Forget painting by numbers this is painting with yarn and the numerical titles are all down to the warp and sequence of making. So 4.1 means fourth warp first piece made in that series. Does that make sense?
What makes perfect sense is joining Margo Selby at Kent & London’s Hackney showroom to see first hand her woven art pieces and to invest in an early Christmas present. A red dot is already on mine. This selling exhibition showcases the work of the two Whitstable based brands, which share a clean, contemporary, modern style, which gives a nod to tradition. The exhibition also recognizes both studios approach to design, which focuses on carefully combining the very best techniques and materials to create beautifully made products. Designers Margo Selby and Luke Ellis will both be at the Kent & London flag ship store in Shoreditch to open the showcase with a drinks reception on Thursday 8th December from 5pm - 9pm. About Margo Selby Margo Selby is the founder and creative director of Margo Selby Studio, a textile design company that produces exceptional quality textiles. Hand woven in her Whitstable studio, the framed art pieces on display at Kent & London are part of an on going exploration of weaving using a technique called Lampas. Each piece explores how colour and structure unite, how yarn can be blended, revealed and concealed in a textile to create modernist, abstract colour studies, which celebrate woven textiles.
